Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how ScribblyPanda ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the ScribblyPanda iPad app (the "app") and this website, including its waitlist.

The short version

• Your notebooks live on your iPad.
• So the tutor knows your notes, notebooks you open are synced to our servers. When you ask for help, your question and the relevant pages go to the AI providers that write the answer.
• After you continue through sign-in, PostHog analytics and session replay are enabled by default to find bugs and improve the app. The recordings may show handwriting, notebook pages, imported content, AI chats, and answer cards. Open Settings > Privacy in the app to turn off session replay or all usage analytics on your iPad.
• We do not sell your information, show ads, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
• You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.

Information we collect in the app

• Account information. When you sign in with Apple, Google, or email, we receive your name, email address, and an account identifier. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple's relay address instead.
• Your notes. Notebooks, handwriting, imported PDFs and GoodNotes notebooks, and photos you place on a page are stored on your iPad. So the tutor can use your notes as context, the notebooks you open are also synced to our servers: page images, the text of imported PDFs, and a transcript of your handwriting.
• What you send to the tutor. When you use Check, Solve, Explain, Graphing, Calculate, or the chat, the app sends the area you selected and your question, with your notebook as context. Your conversations are stored on our servers so you can return to them.
• Voice. If you hold the microphone button, your recording is sent to our servers and transcribed so the tutor can answer it. If you turn on spoken answers, the answer text is converted to audio. The app asks for microphone permission before recording.
• Camera. If you take a photo onto a page, the photo stays in your note on your iPad. The app asks for camera permission first.
• Usage and diagnostics. We use PostHog analytics to understand how the app is used (for example, opening a notebook or asking a question), and to collect crash and error reports and performance data. Analytics and session replay are enabled by default after sign-in, following the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy links displayed with the sign-in actions. Replay records app screens and interactions such as taps and scrolling. Recordings may show the notebook canvas, including handwriting, typed text, page images, imported documents, and photos. AI sidebar conversations and answer cards may also appear, including questions, answers, and content quoted from your notes. Other visible interface content, such as notebook titles and thumbnails, may appear too. This information is sent to PostHog and linked to your account. Your notebooks may also be synced or sent to AI providers as described above. Session replay does not start when the iPad's region setting identifies the EEA, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, or when that setting is unavailable. In the app, open Settings > Privacy to turn off session replay while keeping usage analytics, or turn off usage analytics to stop both on that iPad. These controls do not affect your subscription or access to Scribbly.

Information we collect on this website

• Waitlist details you provide: your email address, and optionally the subject you study, whether you use an iPad and Apple Pencil, and any note you choose to add.
• Technical data: standard information your browser sends (such as IP address and user agent), used for security and basic, cookieless analytics.

How we use your information

• To create and secure your account and sign you in.
• To answer your questions: reading your notes, writing explanations, checking your work, calculating results, and drawing graphs.
• To keep your tutor conversations available to you.
• To find and fix bugs, and to understand which features help.
• To email you about early access, and to send product updates only if you opted in. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, in line with Canada's anti-spam law (CASL).
• To prevent spam and abuse.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We share it only with service providers that process it on our behalf:

• Clerk — sign-in and account management.
• OpenAI and Google, reached directly or through OpenRouter — the AI models that read your page and write the tutor's answers.
• ElevenLabs — transcribing voice questions and speaking answers aloud.
• PostHog — product analytics, session replay recordings, and crash reports.
• Cloud hosting and storage providers — running our servers and storing your synced notebooks and conversations.
• Vercel and Loops — hosting this website and managing the waitlist.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and rights of our users and others.

Data retention and deleting your account

We keep your account, synced notebooks, and tutor conversations until you delete your account. To delete it, open the app, tap the Settings gear, choose Account, then Delete account. This deletes your account and the data we store about you on our servers, and removes your notes from that iPad. Analytics data is kept for a limited period and then deleted. Waitlist information is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.

Children

ScribblyPanda is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are under the age of digital consent where you live, use the app only with a parent or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will delete it.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, or delete your information, or withdraw consent, by contacting us at privacy@scribblypanda.com. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California CCPA/CPRA, the UK GDPR, or the Australian Privacy Act, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Security and international transfers

Information is encrypted in transit. Our service providers may process it in countries other than your own, including the United States, with appropriate safeguards where required.

Changes to this policy

We will update the date above when this policy changes, and tell you in the app before a material change to how your work is shared with AI providers takes effect.
